Shiftless Rounders
Ben Sidelinger on dobro and vocals and Phill Saylor Wisor on clawhammer
banjo, guitar and vocals.
Of the Shiftless Rounders latest album Christa O’Keefe of See
Magazine (Edmonton) writes, "If you want insight into what a Shiftless
Rounders show is like, last year’s live release, (places), delivers
a sepia-toned snapshot of the duo’s hillbilly homage sound. Frantic
backporch banjo picking and thumping acoustic guitar rollicks give way
to restrained, mournful dobro slides and moonshine-tinged melodies and
harmonies. Re-shaped authentic oldies shine alongside vintage-feeling
originals, indistinguishable from one another unless you have an anthropological
familiarity with the material of the era." Get the picture? Check

Shiftless Rounders.

Mr. Something Something
The unbeatable dance rhythms of Nigeria, Senegal, Mali and Ghana are
the original gathering place for the elements that make up Mr. Something
Something's sound. Western instruments and concepts of improvisation
are explored and layered over what used to be called afrobeat; but the
term strains to contain the innovations happening in the rhythm section
at every show. Wildly energized and unpredictable live shows have brought
Mr. Something Something a hard-earned, solid reputation as an act that
really gets through to people. The fresh sound and powerful message
of The Edge, the band’s second album, has brought an action-packed
2006. Check
out their website.
